How To Make A Tiling Image
Chapter 2: Making Tiling Images With Windows PaintSo, let's get started and begin making a tiling image using the Windows Paint accessory:
(I'm using Paint, because just about everybody with a PC has it, as this
program is included with Windows).
- Load the original image into Paint:
- Click Select All on the Edit menu. Then click Copy on the Edit menu. This copies the original image to the Windows clipboard.
- Click Attributes... on the Image menu and make a note of the original values (in this case a width of 75 pixels, and a height of 100 pixels).
Still on this screen, double the Width value (so, in this example, 75 becomes 150), then click OK.
- The screen should now look something like this:
(Note that there is a blank part of the image to the right of the main image).
- Click Flip/Rotate... on the Image menu. On this screen, select Flip horizontal then click OK.
On this screen, select Flip horizontal then click OK.
- The screen should now look something like this:
(Note that the image is now the mirror image of the previous image, with blank part on the left).
- Click Paste on the Edit menu, and the screen should now look something like this:
(Note that the blank area has now been filled in, and there is a smooth join down the middle).
- Now, click Select All on the Edit menu. Then click Copy on the Edit menu. This copies the new image to the Windows clipboard.
- Click Attributes... on the Image menu:
Still on this screen, double the Height value (so, in this example, 100 becomes 200), then click OK.
- The screen should now look something like this:
(Note that there is a blank part of the image below the main image).
- Click Flip/Rotate... on the Image menu.
On this screen, select Flip vertical then click OK.
- The screen should now look something like this:
(Note that the image is now the vertical mirror image of the previous image, with blank part at the top).
- Click Paste on the Edit menu, and the screen should now look something like this:
(Note that the blank area has now been filled in, and there is a smooth join across the image).
- Now click Save As... on the File menu to save the image under a new file name. Your tiling image is complete!
