How To Make A FAVICON

Introduction

FAVICON is a small graphic used to represent a particular web site. It can be displayed by various browsers (including Internet Explorer 5 and above) when navigating or bookmarking that web site.

Once placed there, the a compatible browser should be able to pick it up (although it may be able to first clear the browser's cache). Where and if the FAVICON is displayed in the browser depends on the browser's user interface, but in Internet Explorer, FAVICON is displayed in the browser's address bar, and also in the Favorites menu for bookmarked sites.

In this tutorial, I'll show you how to create a FAVICON for your web site. The tutorial is divided into three chapters:
  1. Creating The Icon
I will begin by describing the format for the icon, and some tools that you can use to create it.

  2. Uploading The Icon
Next, we'll discuss uploading the icon to your web site.

  3. Linking FAVICON From HTML Pages
Finally we'll discuss how to link the icon from your web pages. This step is particularly important if you don't have your own Domain Name or if you do not wish to use the default filename for the icon.
