How To Make A FAVICON

Chapter 3: Linking FAVICON From HTML Pages

If your FAVICON is now working to your satisfaction, then you do not need to do any further work.

However, there are three situations where you definitely would need to do some more work:
  1. If you do not have own domain name.

  2. And/Or, if you wish to have different FAVICONs for different files/directories on your site.

  3. And/Or, if you wish to call your FAVICON file something other than favicon.ico
In these three cases, however you do need to some extra work:

EITHER:

If you want the same graphic for all pages in a particular folder, and you're prepared to name the FAVICON file as favicon.ico, you can simply place a favicon.ico in every folder of your web site which contains web pages. In fact, you can even put different graphics (all named favicon.ico of course) in different folders.

OR:

You can insert code into your web pages (in the <HEAD>) section (substituting your particular file name and domain name):

<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="http://www.yourdomainname.com/myicon.ico">

Using this approach, you would need to insert this type of code into every HTML page on your site. However, the advantage is that different pages of your site can have different FAVICONs.
