How To Make Text From Images
Chapter 1: The Easy MethodThere is a dead easy method to create text from images... if you have
the right program...
The program is the PhotoFont feature in that comes with
Hemera's Photo-Objects 50,000 Premium Image Collection.
Please note:
- There is also a Macintosh version of Photo-Objects 50,000 Premium Image Collection, but I'm not sure if this includes the PhotoFont feature or not.
- I understand that some of the other
Hemera Clip Art products also include the PhotoFont feature.
Anyway, here's an example image that I knocked up in approximately 30 seconds:
Here's the steps:
- Start the Photo-Objects program, then click the PhotoFont tab.
- Choose the image to use as the Texture by clicking on its thumbnail. A number of preset images are available, or you can use your own image by selecting Add Texture... on the Edit menu.
- Type in the text (in this case, the words "Answers 2000").
- Select the Font face, Style (Bold, Italic, etc.) and Size.
- Click Export To... on the File menu and follow the dialog box to export the image into a file with your chosen background color etc.
Now, while this is unbelievably easy, I won't pretend that there aren't limitations:
- First, as far as I can see, there is no way to determine which part of the Image Texture will be placed over each letter.
- Second, as far as I can see, you can only do one line of text in each image (so if you need multiple lines of text, you'll have to create a series of images, each image corresponding to a different line of text).
In the next Chapter, I'll show you another way to create these types of images, but using the Paint accessory that comes with Windows. The technique that I'll cover, will allow you to do multiple lines of text, and position the text to use a chosen part of the image.
