    Make Screen Shots

    Chapter 4: Some Helpful Tools

So far, we've talked about manual methods of performing screen captures. However, there are a few issues that you need to be aware of:
    1. The manual method may not be able to capture some things, particularly some games (particularly games that use DirectX) and multimedia programs.

    2. If you want to capture a web page or document, that is larger than the screen (one that needs to scroll to show the whole thing), it's not easy to do this manually. To do it manually, you'd have to capture different sections of the page, and then manually stitch them together to join up seamlessly (hard work!).

    3. If you want to capture a specific or precise area of the screen, you have to capture the whole screen (or a whole window), and then try to crop it to the correct size.

    4. It can be very hard (and sometimes impossible) to capture things which appear only briefly on screen, for example, drop-down menus in software programs.
For this reason, if you're serious about taking screenshots, or you need to take a lot of them, you may want to get a utility to help you such as:
    • SnagIt
SnagIt is one of the most powerful, and probably market leading programs for taking screenshots.

    • !Quick Screenshot Maker
!Quick Screenshot Maker is a powerful tool for screen capturing, screen shot editing and image organization. It can capture any part of the screen, including windows, regions, controls and DirectX game screens. It also supports capturing cursors and long scroll windows. It can perform timer-activated captures. You can draw on each image, and crop, cut, resize, rotate and mirror it. You can select transparent colors, change opacity, drop shadows, change the brightness and contrast, and add more than 40 visual effects to images. Enhance your image by adding annotations such as text, callouts, arrows, highlights to it, and easily change annotation objects' position, size and other properties. You can manage all the screenshots in the History List bar, easily open or insert an image file to current screenshot project. Make professional screenshot easily and quickly.
