DXF File Format

DXF is an ASCII format for exchanging vector data between programs, particularly CAD software. It is essentially a representation of the drawing information contained in an AutoCAD file.

There is also a binary version of this file format (which stores the same information in less space) known as DXB.

A technical discussion of this format can be found in Chapter 19 of Graphics File Formats by David C. Kay and John R. Levine.
