    Lossy Compression

Lossy Compression are methods of compression where the data may be modified as a result of being compressed and decompressed.

There are numerous lossy compression algorithms intended for different purposes and data types (images, sound, video, etc.), however a basic goal of all of them is to try to only lose data that would be undetectable to human observers.

One of the formats that uses lossy compression is the JPEG file format.
