Make 3D eBook/Box Covers
Chapter 2: Using Painting Software
If you don't want to use
CoverFactory,
an alternative is to create your covers using
a paint program
(although you generally need a pretty good/expensive program if
you want to produce good quality results).
There are a number of web sites that provide tutorials or templates that
can help you with this process. I'll give you a list of these sites
in a moment, but a couple of notes of caution:
- Tutorials are usually specific to a particular program. For example,
if you have instructions for making covers using
Adobe Photoshop,
these instructions may not prove to useful if you only have.
Adobe Fireworks.
- Some sites may give you templates (blank covers) on which you are supposed to draw
your own text or images. However, if the template is drawn at an angle
to the viewer, it can be hard to make your own text/graphics
match the perspective of the template. Anything less than a perfect
match will ruin the illusion of being 3D.
