Half-ToneHalf-toning is the idea of using patterns of larger and smaller dots in a monochrome images to give the illusion of gray. If you look at an old-fashioned black and white printed newspaper, perhaps with a magnifying glass, you should be able to clearly see the effect.Of course in bitmaps and bitmapped devices (such as modern laser printers), all the pixels are the same size. Thus in bitmap images, half-toning is achieved by using groups or patterns of pixels, which is effectively the same idea dithering.
